NURSERY UPDATE

I have 5-6 weeks left before this baby arrives and I still haven't started painting and decorating the nursery...needless to say, I'm getting slightly stressed!  My fall gift show, custom orders, wholesale orders and new room addition have taken front stage and the nursery has been last on the list.  We are finally going to get started this week so I finally made it over to Benjamin Moore to choose paint samples.  Once I narrow down a color, I can get the ball rolling...and fast!

Here are some of the ideas I've been considering for this special room...

This was the bedding I was originally in love with but the price was a little too high...doesn't it look dreamy...I ordered the velvet blanket in a pale pink instead.
bedding by Bella Notte

This is one of the many rooms inspiring my choices...I had a hard time deciding between a more modern nursery versus a prissy traditional nursery...I'm going to try to mix the two together...the overall theme is very light with a slight vintage feel.

I will be adding some color to my nursery with Hootenanny distressed frames in muted pinks, grays, beiges similar to this one...

This is the bedding I'm having made...I love natural linen...I plan to add color with the blanket, crib sheets, and room accessories...

Accessories such as this fabulous rug...
a little blurry?

And this moroccan pouf...

I want to add a mobile like this one...I can't remember where this photo came from...I guess I will have to make it...

I love these pillows...I need to narrow my choices down!!

Can you tell I am currently loving owls!  I still have to narrow down my final wall color, find an upholstered rocker, a dresser, a side table, and window treatments!

Hootenanny Art Feature

It's always exciting when a fellow blogger/artist features your art on their blog.  One of my more recent Auburn Art pieces, Quiet Night on the Corner, was featured last week.  The feature named 52 Fridays, An Art Tour of America, will be ongoing. Each week a state is chosen (alphabetically) and 10 pieces from various artists are featured.  I love seeing other artists and their work.  Check it out if you have a minute...

New hootenanny distressed frames

It’s time to start thinking about unique ideas for Christmas gifts.  Go to the hootenanny auburn Etsy shop to see some of the new hootenanny frames and artwork.  We also have prints and t-shirts of “Auburn Skyline” art for sale.  If you don’t see the frame color or size you’re looking for you can place a custom order.  Just be sure to place your orders soon, the hootenanny custom order cut off date will probably be right after Thanksgiving.  We already have several orders to fill and a baby coming right around Christmas.

AUBURN ‘SKYLINE’ ART

For those of you that have requested prints of the Auburn ‘Skyline’ art, we now have prints available to purchase.
This one is an 11x14 and sells for $138 on the Hootenanny Etsy site.  It is printed on a canvas that is wrapped and painted black on the sides, so there is no need for a frame.  I also have 16x20 prints available on watercolor paper.  These are very delicate and we recommend that these be framed…hootenanny can help you out with your framing needs.  We offer most any size Auburn ‘Skyline’ print at your request.  Email us at jennifer@hootenannyauburn.com to discuss other sizes and pricing.

Hootenanny & Scatter Fall Gift Show

Last week I joined up with a friend and her new business, Scatter, and we hosted a trunk show displaying Hootenanny and Scatter items.  We wanted to help give local residents a kick off to the holiday shopping season.  We now have just a little over 50 shopping days left until Christmas…ugh!  We had a great turnout and consider it a successful show. I thought I would post some photos to show my viewers some of the items that we offered.

Over the past several weeks we've been busy working and creating to get prepared for our upcoming Fall trunk show, as well as, ship out wholesale and Etsy orders.  Somehow in the middle of it all we managed to come up with several new frame designs.  When things slow down, the new frame styles and designs will be added to our website and Etsy site for ordering.

Here's a peak at one of the new styles...

HAVE WE LOST OUR MINDS

If you were to come to my house these days, you would feel like you were at the zoo.  We have construction taking place upstairs above the garage, fabrics and idea books scattered all over with ideas for the new teen addition and a nursey for our new arrival, as well as, Hootenanny projects and orders in every other available space.  Taking on all of these projects during the third trimester of pregnancy was probably not a good idea!  We are finally seeing the end of the new addition in sight.

We are moving our teenage daughter into this new addition and then we will start working to transform her old room into the new nursery.  I'm posting some before construction photos when the space was our attic storage and photos of the room drywalled prior to any painting/wallpaper...those will come soon.  I'm going to need some help from you as I decide what type of window treatments to put in this room...blinds, roman shades, long panels, a cornice?  I want to try to make the window look bigger than it is (my teenager wants blackout shades??). I am also going to make two to three Hootenanny frames (of course) for this room, so once we get the wallpaper hung and painting completed I'll need some input...I'm thinking either Chevron striped frames or the popular Ikat print...maybe a mixture of both!

Before construction...you should have seen it when we used it as our storage...what a mess!

After...the construction crew had just left...we have carpet now and are almost done with the touch-up painting and baseboards...wallpaper this week

Stay tuned...

Tornado Trash 2 Treasure

209
I just turned in some items I’ve been working on for the upcoming Tornado Trash 2 Treasure charity auction on Thursday, October 16, 2011 at 6pm.  If you live in the Auburn-Opelika, Alabama area you should definitely make an effort to purchase a ticket and show your support.  Jonna Chizik recovered items (or trash) destroyed in the Alabama tornados earlier this year.  These items have now been revived by many Alabama artists for others to enjoy.  All items will be auctioned off and proceeds will directly benefit the children and families in the Dadeville area who were affected by the April 27 tornadoes.  For more information go to http://www.allinforyourturn.com/

I’m so excited about being a part of this event.  I look forward to seeing all the hard work the other artists put into each piece, as well as seeing the 216good that comes from the hard work leading up this this event.  Such a great way to give back to our community!

ROOM WORTHY FRAMES

I love the neutral color decor these days. I can't get enough of this neutral, so I decided to paint my master bedroom light gray (Revere Pewter) with a dark gray ceiling (photos to come).  However much I may love the new neutrals, I am still a color lover at heart and will always feel the need to add a splash of color to a room.  I’ve paired up some neutral rooms with Hootenanny distressed frames.

THIS FRAME IN THAT ROOM...

I've got nursery design on the brain these days...I love all types of nursery design ideas...modern, frilly, vintage, Parisian, etc...it's going to be hard to narrow down all the choices when the time comes.  I love this distressed hootenanny frame for a nursery accessory...

I had some teenage girls help me design the color scheme for this one...they did a good job, didn't they?

I would love to see it in this nursery...

With these fabulous accessories...

The cream and white are so peaceful...but of course, you need splashes of color to finish it off...and framed photos of your precious little one...
